Your Indie Rock Video May 24 Long Weekend Playlist

How to prepare for your campfire sing-alongs this weekend

Whether you’re hitting the cottage or bumming around at home this long weekend, easy summer living isn’t far when you have the right soundtrack. Here are our family friendly picks for May 24 weekend watching and listening, including a good dose of indie rock, electronic and bluegrass. Enjoy!

1. Frost – Parade

In this video by Norweigan electronic pop duo Frost, front woman Aggie Peterson rocks out with her adorable, pink headphone wearing kid. We appreciate that they play airplane and dress up together before her glammed out stage performance.

2. Animal Collective – Brothersport

Two kids dressed as cuddly monsters run through some fields with wild turkeys and happen upon an empty house where they make psychedelic crafts and have a dance party!

3. Feist – Mushaboom

How to Turn Your Backyard Into A Carnival

Fun ideas for a DIY backyard bigtop!

Boring backyard? Not this spring! Step right up and try your hand at some psychedelic lawn bowling, tin can slits and homemade funky face paint. Commemorate the day the Ringling Brothers Circus opened this Saturday by turning your backyard into the place to be. Here are some fun activities:

1. Sifted flour lawn stars

These easy lawn decals will glam up your grass in minutes. All you need to do is cut a big star out of a pizza or cereal box, set it on the lawn, use a spray bottle to douse the lawn inside the star with (this will make the flour stick). With a flour sifter, shake some white flour liberally over the template. Fill your lawn with stars of every size!

2. Funky face paints

Jimmy Fallon’s New Sitcom “Guys With Kids” Promises Bro Banter, Favourite Child Stars and Real Life Laughs

What’s not to like about this dad-ass sitcom?

Some people say dads are the new moms. We reckon engaged parents empower each other, but we do love us some loving dads — from breastfeeding papas to hipster kings who make Tinkerbell pancakes. So naturally, we were excited to hear that Jimmy Fallon produced a sitcom about the trials and tribulations of life as a new dad. Give the pilot clip a watch to see what’s to come this fall:

The show will follow three dads homies (Jesse Bradford – the single guy, Zach Cregger – the working guy and Anthony Anderson – the stay at home guy) as they navigate the murky waters of parenting in the early stages. They juggle work with family life, debate about kids style choices, and fret over what to feed your kid when the bar you’re at only has 2% milk and he’s at the whole milk stage — you know, the tight jams of parenting.

mother's day

This Sunday: Make Garden Party Tea Sandwiches and Play a Leisurely Game of DIY Lawn Croquet

Your Mother’s Day morning plan!

mother's day plans tea sandwiches and croquet

If what mom really wants in her special day is to lounge around in bed till noon and then make grilled cheese, this is totally the day to do it. But for those who wake up with a little more spring in their step, why not put together a garden party style spread?

EAT:

Nothing says fancy tea party like a trio o’ finger sandwiches. To whip up an easy selection of tea sandwiches you can display all pretty-like, grab yourself a big baguette and make three varieties in one fell swoop. This minimizes toil in the kitchen and maximizes kid and parent pleasing variety. Make sure your kids don’t scrutinize your filling actions if they’re squeamish about cross contamination!

  • Cuke n’ avo — spread mayo on both side of the baguette, and top with cucumber slices, avocado slices and cracked black pepper
