Top Spots in Canada to Stock up on Fall’s Best Tart Treats – Apples!
Late September is a time when apple orchards are pretty much begging to be ransacked by hungry families. Throw in a corn maze, a pumpkin patch and a hayride and you have yourself a dreamy weekend day trip. Because we can’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful weekend day, we’ve gone and found you a few places to get your apple picking on.
Where: 122 Ashworth Rd. Mount Albert, Ontario
The Goods: Ida Red, Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Royal Gala and Honeycrisp.
Other Fun Stuff: As you will tell from their website, this farm is a firecracker of barnyard bumpkins and quirky mascots. Fun is a top priority for Brooks Farms, especially in the fall. Fall festival weekends are on until October 30th, and include train and wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, pig races, farm animals, zip lines, a pirate ship and pumpkin canons.
Where: 9726 Heritage Road, Brampton, Ontario
The Goods: 21 varieties of apples. At their best now are Empire, Jona Gold, Spartan, Mutsu, Smoothie, Tolman Sweet, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious.
Other Fun Stuff: Expect to meet some chickens, rabbits, and goats meandering around the grounds, and check out the farm market, playground in the orchard, and pumpkin patch. On weekends, the farm provides a free hayride out to the orchard!
Les Vergers LaFrance
Where: 1473, chemin Principal, Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, Quebec
The Goods: McIntosh, Spartan, Empire, Cortland
Other Fun Stuff: “Seedy the Apple”, the farms mascot, puts on 3 kids shows daily over the weekends. When you tire of his antics, hop on a tractor ride, watch some live music, or play in the playground or mini farm. They also have a country store and pastry shop serving their prize winning cider and killer apple beignets.
Where: 2495 Boul Perrot, Notre Dame de I’lle Perrot, Quebec
The Goods: Organic McIntosh, Cortland, Spartan
Other Fun Stuff: Tractor rides to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch, a hay labyrinth, an animal barn with pigs, sheep, a cow, a donkey, chickens, and an old fashioned bakery with organic treats.
Where: 1309 Rte 131 Arlington, PEI
The Goods: 31 varieties of apples. Ready now are McIntosh, Joyce, Cortland, Gala, Honeycrisp, Golden Russets, Jonagold, Spartan.
Other Fun Stuff: Arlington Orchards also has a ton of different types of pumpkins, hay rides, straw jumps, a kids playhouse and a small farm market. The farm hosted an annual scarecrow festival in late September, so prepare to be amazed at an orchard full of straw men.
Dempsey Corner Orchards
Where: RR#3 Aylesford, Nova Scota
The Goods: There are over 57 varies of apples, including Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Russet, Cortland, Astrachan, Gala, Jonagold, King, Spy, Johnson, and Ozark Gold.
Other Fun Stuff: There is a century old barn to explore, as well as bee hives, a petting zoo and playground, foxes, sheep, fine carriage horses and an old style tea room with freshly baked apple goodies including a mile high apple pie. From Mid to late October is the farms 6th annual Pumpkinfest!
Where: 333 Gladwin Rd, Abbotsford, BC
The Goods: Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, JonagoldOther Fun Stuff: Tractor trails, zip lines and slides, a petting barn, and some good, clean fun with pumpkin cannons and corn guns. Apple barn specializes in pressing apple cider, and you can watch it being made at their country store and nab a few free samples.
Davison Orchards Country Village
Where: 3111 Davison Rd. Vernon, BC
The Goods: 23 varieties including Empire, Spartan, Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Arlet, Royal Gala, Silken, Davison Gala, Macintosh, Ginger Gold.
Other Fun Stuff: Allow the Johnny Popper Apple train to whisk you away to the orchard and pumpkin patch. After that, have a photo shoot on the antique tractors, make friends with the animals, go wild at the crazy cow kids corral, and mow down on some family recipes at Auntie May’s Deep Dish Cafe. October 15 and 16th is pumpkinfest! Scarecrow making, pick your own pumpkin rides will ensue.

The Goods: Mclean Apples, Crabapples
Other Fun Stuff: This totally sustainable farm is home to 36 sheep, Normyn the cow, Junior the llama and Buddy the donkey. You can also press your own juice with the apples you pick!
Where: 54 km northwest of Saskatoon, Waldhein, Saskatchewan
The Goods: Three separate orchards totalling 14.5 acres produce Grannie Annie apples, Misty Rose, Autumn Delight, Red Mike, Patience, Parkland, and Goodland.
Other Fun Stuff: Surrounded by a mile of trails, 100 year old cottonwood poplars and a view of the North Saskatchewan River, this picturesque farm is a total gem. A ton of different apple products are produced here, like apple cider vinegar, dehydrated apple slices and pies galore!
