After chatting on the phone with Tamra Davis, we have concluded that she is our hero. For one thing, she’s one of a handful of successful female filmmakers and has directed some of our favourite movies of all time (hello, Billy Madison!). You know that band you loved in high school? She directed their music video. Her husband is Mike D of the Beastie Boys, and her circle of friends has included such iconic figures as Jean-Michel Basquiat , the subject of her recent documentary project.
Colin’s family had an old garage built in the ’50s behind their house, which they never parked their car in because the only thing holding it up, according to Colin, was “willpower.” One year after a particularly heavy snowfall the roof started caving in, and the family tore the garage down with plans to rebuild. Colin had been doing some reading about green roofs, and after getting some pricey quotes from different companies, he decided to do it himself (and recorded the process on his blog).
