How to Make a Wolf Suit for $15

1. Buy a size small, white, hooded Tyvek painter’s suit from your local paint or hardware store. Cut the arms and legs to fit.

2. Size the costume by using a sewing machine to take it in on the seam in the following places:

  • The back of the hood
  • The arms
  • The side of the suit

3. Cut feather shaped ears from white poster board. Split the bottom so you can bend it over and create a broad base to glue to the hood, using a hot glue gun.

4. Cut a tail shape out of white poster board. Trace the tail onto a piece of grey fun fur with a sharpie. Cut this out and glue gun it to the suit.

5. Cut a crown out of gold or yellow poster board and glue or tape the ends together.

But if, as the movie tag line claims, there is a wild thing in each of us, we suggest unleashing the creative powers of the folks at your Rumpus upon a liberal supply of feathers, yarn, construction paper, duct tape, paper bags, paper plates cardboard boxes and fabric remnants. See what they come up with. It might be something like this:

Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack

Recent Polaris Prize winner Patrick Watson has written a beautiful Where the Wild Things Are song:

The Arcade Fire’s rousing song “Wake Up,” is featured in the movie trailer. It makes us feel wild.

We like to dance wildly to The Breeders’ song “Cannonball” (video by Spike Jonze).
