Chicken Pox Blog

Seven-year-old Tristan had a really nasty case of the chicken pox, so his parents, Gretel and Isaac, set him up with a blog of his own to give him something to think about, other than the itch.

The result is Chicken Pox Blog, Tristan’s elegantly written and photographed account of his 16 day battle with the pox, starting on the day he found out he was afflicted:

Kids In Museums Manifesto

Kids in Museums is a U.K. based organization that encourages museums to make their spaces friendly to families. It was founded in 2003, when the two-year-old son of Guardian writer Dea Birkett was thrown out of the Royal Academy’s Aztec exhibition for shouting ‘Monster!’ at a statue of Eagle Man, a story that will serve him well at dinner parties for the rest of his life.

Once a year, Kids in Museums releases a Manifesto, compiled from visitor’s comments, that lets museums and galleries know how they can make certain that families will have a super good time when they visit. Take for example, item number 16: “Don’t say ssssshush! Museums are places for families to chat, have conversations and discuss.” True that.

You can check out the 2009 Manifesto here and let us know what you think. Did they leave something out?

Ticklish Plants!

At Bunch, we’re totally loving the Mimosa pudica, the ticklish plant!

These plants respond to your touch; pulling their leaves in as you trace your fingers along their stems.  They even fold up to go to sleep at night when the lights go out!

Taking care of a plant is a great opportunity for your bunch to learn about gardening and the responsibility of taking care of something.  Who knows, maybe your kids will impress you so much that they can graduate to something a little bit more intensive, like a dog (or a backyard chicken!)

They’re easy to grow, and the leaves start responding in about a month.  This is, hands down, the most cuddly and fun looking plant we’ve ever seen.

You can get your own pet TickleMe Plant here.  Or, ask your local garden centre for Mimosa pudica seeds.

Bunch Family Dance Party: Outer Space Pictures

We’ve got great Outer Space Dance Party pictures of you guys but the aliens at the party managed to avoid being captured by our lens. There is still no proof of the existence of intelligent life in space. Which is sad, because the aliens at the party were not just intelligent, they could also really throw down.

So we’re having a contest!

We’re giving away prizes from Yo Gabba Gabba! for the best picture or video of a dancing alien at Bunch Family Dance Party: Outer Space Edition. Join the Bunch Flickr group and share what you’ve got, with us and with each other.

Thanks to everyone who came out! Let us know if you have a great idea for next year’s big bash.
